Prayer Partners for Advent 2017
November 12 to December 24
Have you ever wanted someone to pray with? Have you ever wished you could ask a friend to pray for you but no one came to mind? Maybe the problem wasn’t because you don’t know someone who prays regularly but you didn’t want to ask because it seemed like a “small” request.
Every week we offer our personal prayers to God in worship with the words, “…for we know when we share our prayers, our joys are increased and our burdens halved.” This Advent you are invited to be a Prayer Partner with someone in the congregation. Being a Prayer Partner means covenanting to connect with that person at least once a week during Advent (November 12 – December 24) to share with each other about the things you’d like held in prayer, and then praying with and/or for that person. Being a Prayer Partner means covenanting to connect with that person at least once a week during Advent (November 12 – December 24) to share with each other about the things you’d like held in prayer, and then praying with and/or for that person. Some ways to do this are:
- Call, text or email one another. Better yet, meet for coffee or go for a walk. Or just find a quiet space after church on Sundays to check in with each other. Whatever suits you both best.
- Share several prayer requests or keep it simple and just share one. Praying for only one request will keep it easy to complete and yet you are providing accountability and encouragement for one another. Share details or just a general request (“I have a medical test this week” or “I’m just feeling anxious about some things right now.”) Please do, though, ask for prayers for yourself.
- You might pray while you’re together or maybe you’ll agree to pray for one another on the same day of the week, or at the same moment. (“What do you think about praying for each other this Monday morning?”) Then set a phone reminder and be intentional. You could even drop a quick note (text, email) and say “Praying for you.”
