The Great Divorce ~ A Presentation by Anthony Lawton at
St Paul's Church, 174 Whisconier Rd, Brookfield, CT
Picture
Anthony Lawton has adapted C.S. Lewis’ novella into a skillful 80-minute performance. The Great Divorce is a “journey” through the afterlife by bus. Anthony Lawton portrays over a dozen characters as they deliberate over the choice of Heaven or Hell, a decision which is not as simple as it sounds.

The 12 characters Lawton depicts in his solo performance of The Great Divorce are engaged in “this great civil war”, struggling to decide whether or not they will give up human pettiness in order to spend eternity in Heaven or get back on the bus to Hell, not addressing their addictions and grudges. But the choice between joy and miserable loneliness proves to be much harder than they would have guessed. The piece is a feast of rich language, profound psychological insight, and humor. And Lawton’s performance is lively (to the point at which it seems hardly likely there is merely one man on stage). after each performance, there will be an informal reception with refreshments  where attendees can meet Anthony Lawton. Performances:  Friday, 5/2/25, 7:00 PM; Saturday, 5/3/25, 7:00 PM; Sunday, 5/4/25, 3:30 PM. Tickets: $25 Online at: The Great Divorce

Theology on Tap
Wednesday, May 21, 2025
Picture
Come take part in the lively discussions at “Theology on Tap” from 5 PM to 6 PM on May 21, 2025. We’ll meet at Bora Restaurant and Wine Bar, 68 Stony Hill Road, Bethel for some informal discussions on life and faith. It’s a great time to get together to share ideas and views with Valley friends old and new. Grab a beverage of choice, pull up a chair and enjoy. If you’re so inclined, plan to stay later and enjoy a meal at Bora. This is open to the public. No admission fee. We just all pay for our own food and beverage. Everyone is welcome! Invite your friends and neighbors.

Let's all Think Deeply. Discuss Freely. Drink Responsibly.
