A Spirit of Music

ABOUT US

A SPIRIT OF MUSIC is a program devoted to promoting affordable music
education in Brookfield and beyond.

OUR MISSION

Our aim is to provide children and adults with access to music lessons.
Our "Choose-What-You-Pay" model ensures that learners with limited resources have the opportunity to develop fundamental skills in playing and making music.

OUR TEACHERS

Our teachers are dedicated volunteers with over 100 hours of training in their piano performance. They include retired professionals as well as individuals with active careers in fields such as public education. Each of them shares a deep love for music, valuable teaching experience, excellent communication skills, and a generous heart.

SCHEDULE AND LOCATION

Weekly piano lessons are available in various durations, including 30 and 45 minutes, and can be scheduled with the instructor per availability. Lessons are held at Valley Presbyterian Church, 21 West Whisconier Road,
Brookfield CT 06804. Consistent attendance is essential for students to fully benefit from and master the skills taught at their individual level. In the event that a lesson is canceled by the student or the teacher, it can be rescheduled at a mutually convenient time. Advanced notification of absence is expected and appreciated as a courtesy. If lessons need to be canceled due to inclement weather, they will also be rescheduled.

EXPECTATIONS

Each student needs to have a metronome, an assignment book and a good acoustic piano that is properly maintained and tuned 2-3 times a year. A high-quality digital piano can also be used. Additionally, students are expected to allocate a specific time each day for homework. To enhance concentration, students have the option to divide their daily practice into shorter sessions instead of one long session. It is crucial that students engage in practice sessions at least five times per week to ensure progress and growth in their musical abilities.

THE PARENT’S ROLE

Supportive families play a vital role in the success of their young musicians. Family members are invited to observe lessons, actively listen to instructions and take notes. At home, create a comfortable, private learning space for music practice and ensure that your child has dedicated time for her musical pursuits. Encourage your child to listen to high-quality music whenever possible, as it can greatly enrich his musical development.

RECITALS

Students are invited to participate in friendly performance settings where they can share their music with fellow students and their families. These performances are designed to foster the development of self-confidence, poise, public presentation skills, and musical growth. By actively engaging in these events students have the opportunity to enhance their self-motivation, practice active listening, and experience the joy of sharing music with others.

USE OF PHOTOS, VIDEOS AND AUDIO

A SPIRIT OF MUSIC may capture and utilize video, audio recordings, and photographic images of students' musical performances or quoted statements for educational and promotional purposes only. These media assets may be utilized in various formats, including print, electronic, or online media. Students may be identified by their first names when necessary.

YOUR SUPPORT

We’re pleased to offer this learning program under a “Choose What You Pay” model. This means that rather than setting
a fixed fee, we invite families to contribute an amount that feels right for them—keeping in mind the value of the lessons
and what’s sustainable for all involved. Your contribution, aside from personal expenses like music books and piano
maintenance, is fully tax-deductible. Donations can be made by check (payable to VPC) or via Venmo.
