The Valley Music Series invites you to celebrate the joy of the holiday season with a special Concert of Christmas Music featuring the early music ensemble, earlybird. This festive concert will take place on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at 3:00 PM at the Valley Presbyterian Church in Brookfield, CT. The program promises an afternoon of beautiful music, both old and new, that will surely put you in the holiday spirit!
earlybird began as a small group of friends gathering weekly to enjoy singing and playing music, particularly the rich harmonies of Renaissance-era compositions. Over the years, the ensemble has become known for their unique performances at churches, small venues, and even in a former railroad tunnel at Steep Rock Preserve in Washington, CT, where they delight audiences with candlelit concerts. earlybird’s charming and intimate style has earned them a loyal following, and their holiday concert promises to be a highlight of the season.
The talented members of earlybird bring diverse musical backgrounds and experiences to the ensemble.
Members are Jim Barrett (Winsted) bass and recorder; Laura Evans (Roxbury) alto; Sarah Fay (New Milford) soprano and recorder, and Erica Warnock (Bantam) on tenor viol and recorder.
Jim Barrett studied at Boston University and Hartt College of Music. He has been a prominent performer in Connecticut’s early music scene, has sung on several notable recordings and is currently a section leader for Crescendo in Lime Rock, CT. His deep, emotional voice adds gravitas to every performance.
Laura Evans has performed with numerous prestigious ensembles including CONCORA, Crescendo, and the Hartford Chorale. As a cantor at Valley Presbyterian Church, she is also a founding member of earlybird.
Sarah Fay, a graduate of Boston University with a Master’s in Music Education, is an accomplished music director and educator. She serves as Music Director at First Congregational Church of New Milford and has performed with several noted ensembles, including Crescendo and the New Haven Oratorio Society.
Erica Warnock, a lifelong love for early music, has performed with the Everyman Guild, Wykeham Consort, and Parthenia, among others. A versatile musician, she enjoys collaborating with singers to bring the emotional depth of early music to life.
The concert is free to attend, though a suggested donation of $20 is appreciated to support the series. The church is located at 21 West Whisconier and offers ample parking with the sanctuary located at ground level for easy access and entry for all guests.
